Like many, Jimmy Tsiantoulas, '24, didn't initially know what he wanted to study when he started his college journey, only that he wanted to work in the sports industry. After touring Marist and being accepted, Tsiantoulas entered as a Communication major, concentrating in Sports Communication and Journalism. His goal? To work for ESPN.

Tsiantoulas knew that in order to land his dream job, he needed to put in the hard work. "I spent every chance I got to better myself and honing my talents," said Tsiantoulas. Acknowledging that the sports industry is fast-paced and demanding, Tsiantoulas said people need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, "You are constantly going to have to learn new things to better yourself; that's just the name of the game." For Tsiantoulas, he didn't have much video or editing experience before entering Marist but soon learned after being given a crash course. From there, it was a matter of sharpening those skills.

In his junior year, Tsiantoulas received the opportunity to do something not many students have the chance to do: travel to report on - and create content for - both the Men's and Women's Basketball teams. "It had always been a goal of mine to travel all over the country to work on sports events, regardless of said sport. Being flown out to Indiana to watch the Men's Basketball team take on Notre Dame is something I am beyond thankful for," said Tsiantoulas.

For prospective Marist students and sports enthusiasts, Tsiantoulas recommends they become involved in everything they can and explore all the avenues the sports world has to offer, as it can help future endeavors. Most importantly, Tsiantoulas says, "Don't just be good at everything but great at nothing. Find what you are passionate about and work to excel in it."
